Character sequences The string class has been briefly introduced in an earlier chapter. It is a very powerful class to handle and manipulate strings of characters. However, because strings are, in fact, sequences of characters, we can represent them also as plain arrays of elements of a character type. Vectors are sequence containers representing arrays that can change in size. Just like arrays, vectors use contiguous storage locations for their elements, which means that their elements can also be accessed using offsets on regular pointers to its elements, and just as efficiently as in arrays. Parameters alloc Allocator object. The container keeps and uses an internal copy of this allocator. Member type allocator_type is the internal allocator type used by the container, defined in vector as an alias of its second template parameter (Alloc). In this tutorial we take a look at character sequences using arrays. We already know that the C++ Standard Library (STL) implements a powerful string class. C++ Standard Library - Learn C++ in simple and easy steps starting from basic to advanced concepts with examples including C++ Overview, Environment Setup, Basic Syntax, Comments, Data Types, Variable Types, Scope, Constants/Literals, Modifier Types, Storage Classes, Operators, Loop Types, Decision Making, Functions, Numbers, Arrays, Strings C++ provides following two types of string representations − The C-style character string. The string class type introduced with Standard C++. Vector header. Header that defines the vector container class: Classes vector Vector (class template ) vector Vector of bool (class template specialization ) Functions Notice that, in C++, character and string literals also escape characters using the backslash character (\), and this affects the syntax for constructing regular expressions from such types.
